Back on old Earth, it is a closely-held secret that someone, or something, is preventing the development of advanced technologies, the kind of technologies which would allow humans to live comfortably outside the solar system.
How they are doing it is just beginning to be understood; why is another matter.
This story is set in the same universe as The Last Asteroid, and therefore a sequel to Hero of the Rebellion (2nd Class), The Voyage of the Ice Clipper, Time Out of Place and Consolidation Earth.
I am now working on another new tale in the same sequence entitled Garden at the End of the Universe.
I'm rather taken with this series. It's already taken on something of a life of its own, it seems, and I suspect there are yet more stories to come.
